Simran Jhamat scored for West Brom against Leafield, featuring in the inaugural timeline highlighting South Asian heritage players’ journeys through modern women’s football. Aqsa Mushtaq completed her move from Avantes Chalkida in Greece’s top flight league.

Easah Suliman

Suliman made his senior debut last term against Wigan in a Carabao Cup match and has joined Pakistan ahead of their World Cup qualifier double-header against Cambodia. Alongside Grimsby Town’s Otis Khan and former QPR youngster Harun Hamid will be Cyprus-based ex-England U17 midfielder Rahis Nabi who are all also expected to feature.

Suliman has won international renown with England at youth level across all age groups, leading the team in U17 world cup competition in Chile last year as captain. He played every momentous moment.

Preston-born Iftikhar has built an illustrious coaching career since leaving playing, most recently leading Fort William to win the Scottish Highland League title. Now he is back coaching Pakistan Under-19 side – something he hopes will encourage more British South Asians to follow their dreams and follow Iftikhar into coaching. Aqsa Mushtaq

Mushtaq made her mark when she featured in the first-ever timeline outlining the history of South Asian heritage players in English women’s football and signed for Greek second-tier club OFI Crete this month. Mushtaq spent half last season at Championship side Lewes FC before earning Avantes Chalkida’s Most Valuable Player award during that tenure in 2021.

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Millie Chandarana scored her inaugural goal of the season during Blackburn Rovers’ thrilling 3-2 Continental Tyres League Cup loss at Durham. Chandarana, named Sky Sports’ 2022/23 British South Asians in Football Team of the Year, drove into the area before firing low shot into bottom left corner of the net.

Dilan Markanday

21-year-old striker Marcus Cann is an absolute handful for defences as his wit, agility and close control are an absolute joy to watch. Additionally, he often forces opponents into overcommitting in defence and always looks to break through their line.

Pakistan will meet Cambodia for their FIFA World Cup qualifier this month. Their squad will be led by former Millwall and England U17 coach Stephen Constantine, with his aim to help win both qualifying matches; one will take place in Phnom Penh while a return leg takes place back home.
