Cambodia hosted the 7th ASCOPE Task Force Meeting
Secretary of State of the Ministry of Mines and Energy and a member of the ASEAN Petroleum Council of Cambodia, chaired the 7th ASCOPE Mid-Year Task Force Meeting, which was held for three days from 09 to 11 August 2023 at the Angkor Hotel, Siem Reap.
The meeting reviewed and discussed the main work progress of the four working groups of the ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE), such as the Exploration and Production Working Group, the Gas Support Working Group, the Policy and Capacity Study Working Group and the Clean Energy Working Group.
At the same time, Khavan also met with Dr Tran Hong Nam, Chairman of the Board and CEO of PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) to promote investment in the oil sector in Cambodia.
In addition, the team also organized a study tour at Aviation Depots of PTT (Cambodia) located in the Airside area of Siem Reap International Airport to learn about the management and operation of fuel supply and as well as organized a tour for the delegation to visit the temples in the Angkor area, which is a good opportunity to promote the oil sector in Cambodia to attract investors and promote the glorious culture of Cambodia to ASEAN countries. Form e-mobility task force, ESCAP tells Cambodia
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) can establish a National e-Mobility Task Force to enhance the development of electric vehicles in Cambodia, according to ESCAP’s report on the National Policy Framework for Electric Mobility Development in Cambodia.
The task force includes representation from different ministries at two levels including, senior and execution levels.
The recent study, which was commissioned by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) for MPWT, was prepared under the overall guidance of Madan Bandhu Regmi of the Transport Research and Policy Section, Transport Division, ESCAP.
The study said EVs hold great potential for Cambodia, as they can bring numerous benefits to the country.

“Cambodia is heavily dependent on oil imports and promoting EVs can help reduce this dependence. By relying less on imported oil, the country can improve its energy security and reduce its exposure to volatile oil prices,” it said.
Besides, over the long term, EVs can be more cost-effective than traditional fossil-fuel-powered vehicles, particularly with the development of charging infrastructure.
The report said the development of the EV industry in the country can create new job opportunities and support the growth of related industries, such as battery production and charging infrastructure.
In Cambodia, EVs can also help in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector since the transportation sector is a major contributor to the country’s overall emissions, it pointed out.
