The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a medical entrance examination in India conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). In government and private medical and dental colleges in India, it is the only entrance exam for admission to undergraduate medical programmes such as MBBS and BDS.
Once a year, several centres throughout India host the offline (pen and paper-based) NEET exam. The test lasts for three hours and consists of multiple-choice questions from physics, chemistry, and biology (botany and zoology). The total number of questions in the exam is 180, with 45 questions each from physics, chemistry, botany, and zoology. Each correct answer is awarded 4 marks, and one mark is deducted for each incorrect answer.
To be eligible for the NEET exam, a candidate must have passed the 10+2 examination with physics, chemistry, biology/biotechnology, and English as obligatory subjects. The minimum age requirement to appear for the exam is 17 years, and the highest age limit is 25 years for the general category and 30 years for restricted categories.
