It is a practice in India to celebrate Teacher’s day on September 5. The day is celebrated for two reasons: to respect all the teachers of our country and as the birthday of the former President, scholar, philosopher, and Bharat Ratna recipient, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

It was requested by Radhakrishnan to celebrate his birthday as a day on which all teachers should be respected and admired for their contribution. Hence students celebrate this day with all enthusiasm. They greet their teachers and present them with gifts, flowers, speeches, quotes, etc.

Some students also wish their teachers from school and college days via texts and video calls. In India, the day happens in every school and college.

Why Do We Celebrate Teachers Day?

On teacher’s day, we remember the contribution of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice- President and second President of independent India. He was born on September 5, 1888. He made great records in the field of education and was a great inspiration for all his students.

He was a teacher himself, and he respected teachers as they are the entities that shape the future of a nation. A nation can’t survive without having teachers, and he wanted everyone to respect teachers. Teachers are essential in every country, and the country that lacks teachers lacks education and knowledge.

A teacher works as a bridge to fill the lack of knowledge and shapes an individual to the best of his capabilities. By having great teachers and mentors, we become great adults who are responsible human beings and who inspire their coming generations. Hence, our Gurus or teachers are true blessings in our lives; even their hardest teachings are blessings in disguise.

Importance Of Teachers Day

Teacher’s day is celebrated not just to admire the teachers but to make the students understand the efforts of their teachers. The day is celebrated explicitly for teachers, which conveys to students that teachers are important. Regardless of how much they scold us, they always want our best and us to score better and better.

Hence students should express their gratitude on this day and recognize the effort. Some students also have a favorite teacher they never forget because of their teaching. Such students stay connected with their teachers and wish them on every teacher’s day. Today technology has become so advanced that distance doesn’t matter.

Even our Prime Minister Narendra Modi once said, “Teaching is not a profession, a way of life.” He meant that teaching is not just a profession or a way of earning, it is a way of life, and a teacher should always understand his full responsibilities. A teacher should be prepared for the coming changes and adapt accordingly to spread the message to the coming generations.

Teacher’s day is celebrated fun and colorfully in every school and college. Students prepare many games for their teachers; they perform dancing, singing, and say a few words about their teachers. Some teachers also arrange a picnic for the students and conduct many entertaining activities.

In some schools and colleges, students prepare food stalls and other activities and enjoy the day with their teachers.
