Your home is your lifelong asset. And it’s a matter of time before you realize your home needs a makeover – not because it’s showing its age, but because you feel the need for vibrant colors in your home.

Repainting your home is a tricky business. Some rely on painting 918kiss companies to do the job for you. Hiring a painting service can also be expensive for you. However, if you plan to paint it yourself, you should think about the basics; and consider the time and effort you will put into painting your home.

TO PAINT

There are many types of paint today, some giving different finishes, others designed for a specific application. Choosing the right type of paint may seem confusing at first, but once you’ve decided what theme you want to paint your home and what kind of work and finishes you want, the choice is pretty easy.

There are two bases of paint for your home: solvent-based (oil or alkyd) and water-based (latex). Oil-based paints dry slowly – typically it takes up to 24 hours. The best cleanser for oil paints is turpentine or paint thinner. The advantage of latex paints is that they dry relatively quickly, but this is undesirable in hot weather or direct sunlight. The best cleaning of latex paint requires only soap and water. Therefore, when painting the interior of your home, it is recommended to use water-based paints, while for painting the exterior of your home, solvent-based paints are recommended.

There are different types of water-based or solvent-based paints that produce different finishes, which are measured by their gloss factor. “Gloss” is a term that describes the degree to which the color reflects light. Lower gloss of an interior or exterior paint means lower stain resistance.

· A glossy color

  • A glossy color is easy to clean and more resistant to wear. This is ideal for rooms that are used constantly. Most gloss paints are best recommended for use on woodwork, baseboards, kitchen and bathroom walls, door jambs and window frames. However, the downside of using gloss paint is the noticeable bumps in the wall surface.

· A high gloss finish

  • A high gloss finish is highly reflective and works well for highlighting details such as trim and moldings. They are also the best choice for doors and closets – or any area that gets frequent use.

· Satin colors

  • Semi-gloss finishes are very similar to gloss finishes, but have a lower gloss. Satin is also suitable for rooms with high humidity (best for children’s rooms) and can be used for decorative work and panelling. These colors ensure maximum durability.

· Eggshell colors

  • Eggshell colors ensure a smooth and low-gloss surface. Smooth and low gloss colors ideal for your living room, dining room, bedroom and study. It is washable and ideal for bedrooms, hallways, home offices and family rooms.

· Satin colors

  • Satin colors offer a good combination of easy cleaning and moderate shine. These colors outperform the scrubbing power many times over. They work and look great in almost any room.

· Flat colors

  • Flat colors (matt colors) are non-reflective and always a good choice for large walls and ceilings. Flat colors hide imperfections on wall surfaces and splashes when applied. Flat colors are the best choice for vinyl and aluminum trim that is scratched or dented because it hides less imperfections and spatter when applied. These colors are ideal for low traffic areas like formal dining rooms and master bedrooms.

Special colors have been developed based on different consumer insights and brilliant color technology that enables specific colors for specific needs.

  • Ceiling tiles are specially designed for ceilings. These are usually particularly splash-proof.

  • Primer paints can be oil or water based and are used to seal unpainted surfaces to prevent penetration of opaque layers of paint. The appropriate type of primer should be used for the surface to be painted – wood, metal, plaster or tile. There are some ” all purpose ” primers that are suitable for two or more of these surfaces.

  • Anti-condensation paints are used for rooms with humid conditions such as kitchens and bathrooms. This paint is usually formulated to prevent condensation and often contains fungicides.

  • Fire retardant paints do not completely withstand fires, but their fire retardant formulation prevents the fire from spreading quickly.

It is also important that you use a primer before painting your room. A primer will help paint adhere to the surface by providing a uniform appearance. Using a primer is absolutely essential when painting over new wood, bare wood, drywall, or painting over existing light or dark paint.

However, before you do this, you need to know the condition of the surface you are going to paint. Regardless of whether the primer is oil or latex, you will need to matt the glossy finish by sanding or de-glazing with a chemical de-glazing agent. If you do not matt the glossy finish, the second coat will streak and will not adhere to the base coat as it dries.
