Student who’s ‘only played FIFA’ signs for club after dad pays £17k for 10 mins of game time

A 22-year-old student who has never played football before has signed for a Czech third tier side after his dad paid the club £17,500 to play 10 minutes of a match

The most bizarre transfer of the summer has been concluded in the Czech Republic, after a dad paid third tier side FK Ust nad Labem 500k Koruna (£17,500k) to play his 22-year-old son this season.

Martin Podhajsky, 22, is set to turn out for the same club that former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko played on loan for as a teenager.

But what makes the deal even more incredible is that he’s never played football before in his life, only playing virtually on FIFA.

The law student is also an employee for Viagem, the real estate company of the club’s president Pemysel Kuban.

President Kuban admitted: “He has never played football.

“Only FIFA from what I know. However you don’t just see 500k Czech Koruna rolling on the floor every day. If someone gives me this type of money, I’ll let anyone play.

“He said himself that he would like to play, then his dad called and things started to move. Martin is a law student and an employee of Viagem.

“We are now adjusting the contract with Martin, and the fans will see him already at our first home game, so far only on the substitutes’ bench.”

This isn’t the first time that the club’s ownership has been open to some incredible ideas, including giving away one thousand season tickets for free and hiring Miss Czech Republic 2020 Valerie Herianova as a reporter.

Usti are currently sat in 6th place in the 16-team league – picking up three wins from their previous four games and are one of the form sides in the division.

And hopefully for the club, Podhajsky’s game time won’t affect the side with him expected to replace captain Jakub Mares and play the last ten minutes of a game – with his dad’s cash going towards sponsorship.
