Plantronics continues the tradition of their CS line of headsets with the Cs540, which is a convertible wireless headset that can be worn either over-ear or over-the-head. It has a modern design that is comfortable and lightweight, and it’s the lightest (21 grams) DECT headset in the market.

Using DECT technology, this headset delivers high-definition audio voice quality and eliminates interference from Wi-Fi networks. It also features noise-canceling microphone and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to ensure you hear conversations clearly.

The Plantronics CS540 also comes with an optional headband for over-the-head wearing, as well as three different ear hooks. This lets you customize the headset for your individual comfort and needs.

This is a good choice for those who want to get away from the ear gels and enjoy a more comfortable fit on their ear, but it can be a little uncomfortable for some people when they are wearing the headset all day long.

One-touch controls enable you to adjust speaker volume and mic mute from anywhere in the office without having to return to your desk. This feature is helpful when you’re in a louder environment or talking to a co-worker and need to increase your speaker volume or mute the microphone quickly.

It’s also easy to conference in up to three additional headsets, for enhanced collaboration, and to use the optional Electronic Hook switch Cable or Handset Lifter to answer calls remotely when not on your desk (each sold separately).

You can expect around 7 hours of talk time per battery, and it will charge easily from your laptop or power bank, so you’ll have plenty of talk time all day long. You can even place the CS540 in the charging base while you’re at lunch or on break to extend your talk time further.

Bluetooth’s connectivity is a nice bonus, but it’s not able to connect to a PC, which can be a drawback if you plan on doing more than just your desk phone calls in the future. In that case, you may prefer a headset with PC connectivity or look at other models in the CS500 series which have this option.

The Plantronics CS540 has a great ergonomic design, but it’s a little stiff for some people. It doesn’t have a wide enough angle for people who like to turn the microphone up out of their way when using the headset. It can also be a bit bulky, which is a downside for some people when worn for extended periods.

The CS540 has a range of 350 feet (0.11 km) but be aware that the actual distance you’ll receive will be less because of obstructions in the office such as walls, doors, or cubicles. This is why we recommend taking a closer look at the range of all headsets before making a purchase.
