Step 1:
For the first step of this guide on drawing a dachshund, we will focus on the dog’s head and face. Dachshunds have a distinctive appearance, including a long, slender muzzle and large, drooping ears around their face. You can start by drawing a large rounded shape for the left ear. Then use curved lines that connect to the top of the head. This will then extend into a long line for the muzzle. At the end of this muzzle, we will draw a relatively wide nose. To complete this step, remove a long smiling mouth that extends to the left below the nose. That’s all there is to this step, so you can now move on to step 2!
Step 2:
In this second step of your dachshund drawing, you will add details for the chest, back, and first leg. First, draw a slightly curved line from the base of the head. There will be a short leg with tiny curled fingers at the base. Next, draw a smaller curved line for the chest near that leg. Next, we will draw the beginning of the back of the dachshund. It will be a small curved line coming down from the base of the back of your head. Once these details are drawn, we will move on to step 3 of this guide.
Step 3:
In this third part of our guide on how to draw a dachshund, we will add the other front paw and other body parts. First, let’s start with this leg. It will go next to the first one and look much like the first one. Next, we will add some curved lines for the back and belly of the body. The back line will be a little straighter than the belly line, as the belly line will curve inward sharply towards the end.
Step 4:
You will directly draw the back portions of this dachshund tightening in this fourth phase. The hind legs will look somewhat like the front legs but be slightly longer than the front legs. The hind legs will also be set further apart, and placing them that way helps give this adorable dachshund a more confident appearance! Once you’ve finished drawing those hind legs, you’re ready to add some final details and elements to the guide’s next step.
Step 5:
You are now ready to add the final details to this image in this fifth step of our guide on drawing a dachshund. We will remove the outline of the second left eye to start with. You can add a few small circular shapes inside each eye for the pupils. Then add curved eyebrows above the eyes and a curved line around the mouth. Finally, add a curved tail on the dachshund’s back that extends upwards. You can finish your finishes when you’ve added these details! Drawing a background would be an idea of how you can finish it, and if you had to, what kind of decor would you choose for this adorable dachshund?
Step 6:
This dog breed has a beautiful color palette that alternates between dark and light browns, and that’s the approach we used in our example for this dachshund drawing. When coloring your render, you can use our example as a template when coloring to achieve a realistic look for your Dachshund. When coloring an image, part of the fun is deciding what art media you will use to make your color choices. You can opt for painterly mediums or brighter mediums like colored pens depending on the mood you want the image to have.
