In Best Primary School Not a lot of children end up liking math when they reach secondary level school or even college. Well, there are many reasons why one may not seem accustomed to this subject.

But that doesn’t mean that you, as a parent, cannot help your Balewadi school going kid get familiar with numbers in a fun and creative way.

The notion is to start the journey at an early stage of your kid’s life. Kids between the ages of 3 to 6 are quite curious and observant of things around them.

And since math is everywhere, it is important to include it in your kid’s life in a fun and natural way. For instance, you can help your kid in counting swing sets on the playground, etc.

Having said that, now let’s take a look at some easy ways of adding math to your kid’s day-to-day life.

Best Ways to include Math in your primary school child’s daily life.

1- Bake/cook with your kid

While baking or cooking food, one cannot help but use math. To double the recipe, one requires doing multiplication; for halving, division is required. Similarly, measuring cups, spoons, etc., can get you to work with fractions like ½ cup or a ¼ teaspoon, etc.

You don’t have to jump on the fractions directly. Start simple and slow. For instance, you can ask your kid to count the chocolate chip on the cookies.

While cooking food, you can talk about how many tomatoes or onions go into the pot or how many cups of water was used, etc.

2- Build something with your best primary school going kid

No matter if it is a big project or a small one, if math can be included in it, then don’t shy away from building the project with your kid. For instance, you can make them create a pyramid out of cards, use Legos to build toys, etc.

You can ask your kid questions like, how many Legos do you need to build a house? Ask him/her to build a rectangle, square, etc., out of Legos. Or help your kid count the hearts, spades., etc., on the pack of cards.

3- Plan a party or dinner with your kid

Did you know, there are various math concepts involved in planning a dinner or party? For example, if you have planned a dinner at home, ask your Balewadi school going kid to set the table and count the napkins, plates and silverware.

For instance, you can ask how many plates do we need for 10 guests? How many plates will be leftover? Etc.

You can even take your kid shopping and help him/her do some math when purchasing balloons and party spoons and plates.

4- Incorporate math with bedtime stories

Do you read your kid stories during  bedtime or throughout the day? If yes, here is your chance to add math to it.

You can show the storybook and ask your kid to count things on it.

5- Practise counting with your Balewadi school going kid

The teacher at the best primary school must have taught your kid basic math. When your kid comes back home, try revising whatever he/she has been taught at school in a fun manner.

For instance, if your kid was introduced to new numbers, you can revise the same when he/she is back home. For instance, ask whether he/she can do 23 jumping jacks in 2 minutes, etc.

In a nutshell

Even though the best primary school is completely capable of inculcating math skills to your kid, as a parent, you need to get involved in the math talk, too.

Use the tips suggested above to help your kid get comfortable with basic concepts of math like numbers, counting and measuring at home.
