With Fortnite Chapter 3, the game continues to evolve, and while the island has altered substantially over the years, the essential mechanics have remained largely the same – thus our Fortnite beginner’s guide will assist you in getting started and achieving your first Victory Royale victory. Take a seat on the combat bus, thank the driver, and prepare to plunge into battle as you read on for plenty of Fortnite tips and tactics that will demonstrate how to play Fortnite to your strengths.

You are not permitted to take anything you find on Spawn Island

Guns, ammo, and building supplies are all littered about Spawn Island when you first spawn here, just waiting to be snatched. You can also take them with you onto the Fortnite map, but they will not accompany you into the game. Try to think of Spawn Island as a practice place for learning how to play Fortnite, even though you’ll probably only be there for a minute or two at the most while the game fills up with 100 players. Alternatively, if you want to be a temporary pacifist and shoot anybody in the vicinity, try your hand at creating a makeshift sniper’s hut out of cardboard boxes or other materials.

Wait as long as you possibly can before getting off the Battle Bus

The Battle Bus’ horn will sound as soon as you’re able to jump from it onto the map below, but avoid the temptation to join the throngs of other players who are rushing to jump from it as soon as they are able. Instead, wait until there are around 3 seconds left before the Battle Bus reaches the end of its flight path before leaping from the Battle Bus. When it comes to landing sites, you’ll have little to no rivalry, which means you’ll have a lower probability of getting shot in the face within your first two minutes of play and less competition for loot. Targeting a house or structure when you’re flying will increase your chances of finding a chest, or at the very least some basic loot if you’re lucky enough to hit one. To get in, all you have to do is hit the roof with your pickaxe. When it comes to the glider…

Your glider will deploy on its own accord

When you’re descending from the Battle Bus, there is no option to delay the deployment of your glider, which opens automatically when you reach a specific height over the terrain below. Simply said, that’s all there is to it. Keep in mind that it will only fold up once you have touched down, so be patient and make a beeline for the nearest structure.

Before gulping down a huge shield potion, drink several tiny ones

Around the map, you’ll find both tiny and large blue bottles that, when consumed with the right trigger, will grant you 25 shield and 50 shield, respectively, if you utilize your right trigger (the same button you use for firing your gun). Once you have 50 or greater shield, you will not be able to consume any more little bottles, therefore make sure to drink them all before putting them in your inventory to avoid them taking up valuable inventory space. If you only have one of these enormous shield potions, go ahead and pop the top and down it as fast as you can. It doesn’t matter what level your shield is at.

Assault rifles and SMGs are excellent first-time weapons

You should, as a general rule, stick to assault rifles or submachine guns when you’re just getting started in Fortnite. Sniper rifles are ineffective at distances less than 75 meters, so even while you’ll want to keep one on hand, you should avoid using it in close quarters battle unless absolutely necessary. Another thing to keep in mind when learning how to play Fortnite is that if you’re going to be shooting someone up close and personal, you’ll want to prioritize your shotgun over anything else. When you’re investigating tight locations like houses, basements, or other small spaces, carry a shotgun in your hands because they deal a lot of damage and are good for one-hit kills.

Pay close attention to the measure of rarity

Grey guns are the most frequent, with green, blue, purple, and gold guns being the most rare, in descending order of rareness. Gold firearms are extremely strong, so if you come across one lying around, don’t pass it up. Use the Up button on the D-pad to bring up your inventory, and if you hover your cursor over any of the weapons, you’ll be able to see how much damage they deal if you’re having difficulties picking which ones to retain.

Put on your headphones and start playing

Make sure you have a good pair of headphones in your ears at all times, because hearing the sound of footfall (or, more likely, gunfire) and being able to determine which direction they’re coming from can mean the difference between life and death in Fortnite. If you know the direction people are approaching from, you can take advantage of the extra seconds by switching to a shotgun or erecting a fast fortification.

Create cover before you begin to recover

While we’re on the subject of construction, always, always, always construct barriers around yourself before you begin to heal. It takes valuable seconds for both healing and shield potions to be consumed (up to 10 seconds for a large healing kit), during which time you are unable to move around, shoot, or do anything else other than twist the camera. Consequently, you’re quite vulnerable, and those walls will prevent any gunshots from striking your face. Walls can also be clipped into cliffs and slopes, eliminating the requirement to find a piece of undeveloped land.

There is significant fall damage above three stories

Unlike Borderlands, falling from a significant height (more than three storeys, to be precise – that’s three of your regular walls stacked one on top of the other) will deplete your health, so either construct ramps to the ground or attempt to slide down slopes or cliffs.

In a conflict, always strive to gain the upper hand if possible

As soon as things start to become tense and you find yourself in a gunfight with one of the 100 people running about the battlefield, you want to be on the highest level of potency possible. No, not in that way at least. Make certain that you are higher than your opponent, either by constructing ramps up into the sky or by jumping over and over again (which has the added bonus of making you harder to hit). A decent technique is to construct four walls surrounding yourself in a square, after which you should construct a ramp leading up to the wall facing your adversary. This will give you with a nice sniping platform from which you may retire when you need to reload your weapon. Continue to construct upwards (jump to build below your feet) until you’re in a makeshift tower with the upper hand – along with your pistol, your grenade, and so on…

Always keep grenades, bandages, and shield potions in your inventory for quick access

It’s worthwhile to have at least one of the items listed above on your toolbar. When used properly, explosives can be a powerful tool for destroying some of your opponent’s cover, especially if they are aimed towards the weakest point of their construction. Once the lowest level has been eliminated, the rest of the structure will come crumbling down, exposing them to your shower of gunfire in the open. Extra healing and shields will come in handy when you’re cornered but aren’t ready to give up, and you can also share them with your squadmate if they’re in desperate need of some first aid right now.

Do not fully remove trees from the landscape

The use of a pickaxe to demolish trees for the purpose of obtaining wood for building materials is vital, but do not fully destroy the trees. It is preferable to quit when the tree has 50 health remaining on its hitbar, as leaving a trail of demolished vegetation in your wake makes it extremely easy for other players to trace down your location and hunt you down.

The number of different types of bombs has been reduced

In the past, we’ve had a plethora of various explosives to experiment with — smoke bombs, boogie bombs, stink bombs, shadow bombs – which made it difficult to keep track of them all at the same time. However, things have been significantly simplified in Chapter 3 due to the fact that there are now only conventional grenades available, and we are all familiar with their operation. It will be interesting to see whether new types of bombs begin to make a comeback in the game, but for the time being, there are only plain old fashioned grenades to throw.

Make certain you select the appropriate mode from within the lobby

When you first boot up the game, it will attempt to place you in a squad with all of the positions filled by random people, but this is not guaranteed. You may like to play single or as a duet instead, in which case simply toggle the game mode to the appropriate setting. Whatever mode you’re in, it’ll state “Play!” directly above the button. You should consider to use generator tool in order to get more free v bucks, in game currency.

Crouching reduces the amount of noise your feet make

Sneaky is as sneaky does, and being covert can be a wonderful strategy to cut the distance between you and that coveted Battle Royale spot in the game. Keeping yourself hidden is a significant part of the problem, however moving while crouched will allow you to move much more softly than running can. If you can hear someone nearby, this is a really handy trick since you can maneuver yourself into a better hiding location before they come after you.

In order to receive the majority of the benefits, you must purchase the Battle Pass

It is true that there are some benefits that may be had without spending a single penny; however, if you want the greatest skins and other stuff, you will need to purchase the Battle Pass. It costs 950 V-Bucks, which means you’ll need to purchase the cheapest V-Bucks bundle available, which is $9.99 / £7.99. After then, it’s simply a matter of playing and completing as many tasks as you can in order to begin collecting some valuable equipment.

With your pickaxe, you can break (nearly) any object in your path

Don’t be concerned if you believe you’ve become trapped in a building or that you’ve constructed yourself within a structure. With your pickaxe, you can destroy (nearly) anything, so get to work crushing your way out of this situation. But be careful, since that little red circle icon that appears implies you’re making a lot of noise, and anyone close will be able to hear you, so take your time getting out of your current predicament.

In the locker, you can customize your skin, stickers, and emotes to your liking

Your Locker contains all of the skins, banner icons, gliders, harvesting tools, loading screen, contrails, emotes, dances, sprays, and other customization options. You can swap them in and out from here before every match, but you won’t be able to make any changes while you’re in the game, so make sure you’re satisfied with your appearance and the equipment you’ve equipped before you drop.

Play around with the map in Battle Lab mode to have a better understanding of it

One of the most important components of improving at Fortnite is becoming familiar with the map. It can be exhausting to constantly jump into public games and fight against 99 other players, especially if you’re not succeeding, so go to Battle Lab mode and select Create A Battle Lab to spend as much time as you like exploring the map and finding treasure. You have complete control over the battle royale island, including the Slurpy Swamp, Steamy Stacks, and everything in-between. The Battle Lab will spawn with every potential chest and vehicle, allowing you to understand where each chest is likely to be located and familiarize yourself with your favorite areas.

Develop the habit of collecting materials when you are out running

While the player with the finest aim will almost always come out on top in a combat, constructing is vitally essential if you want to give yourself the greatest potential advantage. However, in order to construct something, you’ll need materials, which can only be gained through harvesting resources. Wood is the most common type of material, and it may be used to demolish anything from trees and bushes to furniture and closets. Test out which structures provide you with the most materials, then harvest them as you go from one site to another to ensure that you have the most resources available to you.
