GoldenEye 007 is a well-known game because it has great gameplay, action, and, most of all, levels.
Since GoldenEye 007 was such a big deal for console first-person shooter games and one of the best-selling Nintendo 64 games of all time, many of its levels have become famous. Many people feel a lot of nostalgia when they hear the music or play with guns. Some parts are better than others, though.
In GoldenEye, the levels are very different from one another. There are stealth missions, action-packed marathons, and even rescues of hostages. A good mission should be fun from start to finish, but it also helps a lot if the levels are well made. Some of the best levels just look really cool and have a lot of detail put into them.
Surface 2
In the first Surface, you didn’t have to go to a lot of different places on the map. The two cabins in the far northwest and the landing area for the helicopter didn’t need to be looked into at all. But in Surface 2, at least on 00 Agent, you will need to explore most of it. On this difficulty, you get a new goal, which is to destroy all surveillance equipment.
The cameras are spread out all over the map, so you’ll have to look at most of it to move on. It makes good use of the level, since many parts of Surface 1 don’t do anything. Also, the goal with the communications tower is much clearer this time.
Bunker 2
Bunker 2 is probably the most unique level in the game because it’s a stealth mission. On other levels, you can be quiet, but setting off an alarm isn’t that big of a deal. In this mission, that’s not the case.
If an alarm goes off, enemies will keep coming until the guards in the area where objective A is located are killed. You can kill the guards with the throwing knives or with a single shot from a gun. Bunker 2 is a long mission with five different goals, but it’s a lot of fun to do it stealthily.
Silo
Silo is a fun ride with a lot going on. All of the goals are in the scientists’ rooms, so the mission goes in a straight line. As long as you remember where they are, this makes it very easy to finish them. In some of the other missions, like Caverns, the scientists can get in the way a lot when you’re trying to blow things up to reach your goals, but that’s not a problem here.
Silo is about the same length as Caverns and doesn’t go on for too long. It ends with a chase with Ourumov, and the fact that you shoot fools the whole time makes Silo a standout level.
Train
Like Silo, Train is a completely linear level where you shoot bad guys from the beginning to the end. The level isn’t very long, but it’s still a lot of fun. You will have to shoot down all the brake units on your way to Natalya. One doesn’t face you straight on, so it can be easy to miss.
You will need to keep an eye out for enemies because they can pop up at any time, and some of them will even come from behind you. So, the level stays interesting. The ending scene with Natalya and the bad guys is a great way to bring the mission to a close and is similar to the book.
Jungle
Jungle is another action mission, but it has a few things that set it apart from the others. One is that it looks different from other missions in the game. For an N64 game from 1997, the jungle and caves are pretty well done. You can use grenade launchers and assault rifles, so the weapons are also pretty good.
Another great thing about this level is that Natalya helps you kill the bad guys. She uses a Cougar Magnum, which is one of the best weapons, to wreck the place. It’s too bad you can’t use it, at least not without cheats, but it’s still very helpful. Jungle is a little too long, but it’s still a great level in the campaign as a whole.
Control
Control is a hard mission that is like a long marathon. It is also one of the best parts of the campaign. There are many guards and sneaky drone guns, so you can get hurt a lot. Control, even on 00 Agent, does have a lot of body armor, though. This makes it a lot more fair and makes it a lot more fun. The hold-the-line scene with Natalya while she’s reprogramming the satellite is the best part.
Enemies will come at you and Natalya from every direction. You have to check your corners and pick up ammo when you can, because 00 Agent mode makes it easy to run out of ammo, which will cause you to fail. It’s a hard but awesome part of the game, and you can’t go wrong with a “hold the line” section.
Cradle
Cradle, the last mission of the main campaign, is a good way to end things. Trevelyan is the last boss you have to fight, and you have to chase him and shoot at him while dealing with other enemies. Even on 00 Agent, you get two body armors, so it’s a hard but fair challenge.
After a while, Trevelyan will go down below to fight one last battle in the same spot as the movie. A nice touch is that if Bond is the one to fall off the platform, there is a different cutscene. Cradle is a great way to end the campaign in a short amount of time.
Aztec
One of the best parts of GoldenEye is the two bonus missions. The first one you can do is called “Aztec.” It stands out because of how it looks, which is a lot like Moonraker. The cool thing about these extra missions is that they don’t take place in the main story of GoldenEye. Instead, they take place in other James Bond movies. For James Bond fans who know the references, this makes the bonus levels more fun.
But Aztec is a hard level because the enemies are armed with assault rifles and Moonraker lasers, which are some of the most dangerous weapons in the game. Jaws, who can use two assault rifles at once and is a tough guy, will be the boss fight. The mission is very cool because it makes references to other James Bond stories, and it’s also a fun challenge to finish.
Egyptian
Egyptian isn’t as hard as Aztec, but it probably has the best look of all the games. So many parts of the map look different, like the water part and where Baron Samedi spawns at the end. In the middle of that area is a huge obelisk that looks really cool. A game level set in Egypt always looks good, and this one is no different.
In terms of how to play, you must get the Golden Gun and kill Baron Samedi three times. You have to move on the right tiles to get the weapon, or else gun turrets will appear. The only real problem with this level is that you have to try and fail. Egyptian is always fun to play again, and it’s one of the few missions you’ll start up just to look around.
Dam
The best part of GoldenEye is the first level. Dam might have been the vertical slice level to show off its contents to people. Dam is a small city that pays a lot of attention to detail. There is a nice dock area that has nothing to do with 8 Ball Pool game but fits the setting. Also, there is the infamous mystery island, which was supposed to be an objective but was cut.
The shooting is fun, and you have to look around both on land and underground to complete all of the goals. Dam says just what GoldenEye is all about. There’s more to do than just shoot, and the maps are better and more detailed than any other FPS console game.
