Solution 1. Resolve the issue by using Quick Fix my Program

To put Quick Fix my Program to use, download the latest version of QuickBooks Tool Hub on your computer and then run the tool. The steps listed down will guide you through the process:

  1. If not closed already, close company files and exit QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. We recommend downloading the setup file of the latest QuickBooks Tool Hub version and saving it somewhere you can easily find.
  3. Navigate to the file location and double-click to open it.
  4. Follow the instructions given on the screen to install the program and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. The QuickBooks Tool Hub icon will be visible on the Windows Desktop, once the installation completes.
  6. Double-click the icon to open the tool hub and go to the Program Problems tab.
  7. Click Quick Fix my Program and wait till it resolves program issues.
  8. Relaunch QuickBooks and open the company file.

Solution 2. Run the QuickBooks Program Diagnostic Tool from the Tool Hub

  1. Inside the QuickBooks Tool Hub, choose the Program Problems tab.
  2. Click QuickBooks Program Diagnostic Tool and wait till it repairs Microsoft components. It may take around 20 minutes for the tool to complete the process.
  3. Once the tool finishes, restart your device and open QuickBooks again.

Solution 3. Change name of QBWUSER.ini file to QBWUSER.ini.old

If you received the error because of a damaged or corrupted QBWUSER.ini file, it could be resolved by renaming the file. Changing the file name will erase the history of opened files. So, you will need to open your data file manually.

  1. Open the folder that keeps all your company files.
  2. Locate the QBWUSER.ini file, right-click it and choose the Rename option.
  3. Change the file name to QBWUSER.ini.old and then rename the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file.
  4. Open QuickBooks. If it opens, try opening a sample company file.
