Chery announced that the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro 2023 will come from the brand’s older “Tiggo” line of vehicles, which have been on sale in South Africa, South America, and South East Asia since 2020, in response to the Omoda 5’s recent Australian release. Chery declined to comment on the likelihood of commercial vehicles competing with the GWM Cannon ute, despite initial rumours about the production of a ute.

While plug-in hybrid solutions may eventually become available, the current trend is towards gasoline-only power. This will rely on demand. In light of this, they ought to be searching for a more seamless debut than the Omoda 5 until the dealer network and the Australian public have learnt a little more about the Chery brand.

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, which is 4.5 metres longer than the Omoda 5 and would compete locally in the medium SUV category. It is built on the same ‘T1X’ platform from a previous generation that supports its larger Tiggo 8 sister.

Its original release was in 2020, making it part of the second generation globally. The same 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine with 115kW/230Nm power is under the hood of the Omoda 5, and it drives the front wheels through a continuously variable gearbox (CVT) with nine stepped gears.

The vehicle includes a motorised tailgate, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, touch HVAC controls, leatherette seating, and a “spacious, agile trunk” with a 475L baggage capacity. Although specific safety features are difficult to pinpoint, Chery claims adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, and six airbags.
